The Driver Education Program is an integrated two-phase program that consists of classroom and behind-the-wheel (BTW – street driving). D230’s requirements exceed the requirements set by the State of Illinois and ensure a safe and secure learning experience for students learning to drive.
Students must pass both the classroom and driving phases in order to be eligible to obtain their driver’s license. They must also attend a minimum of thirty (30) hours of classroom instruction and drive for a total of six (6) hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction. State law also requires each student to complete fifty (50) hours of practice driving with an adult, outside of the class, to qualify for an Illinois license. Ten (10) of those hours must be completed during night driving conditions. The Driver Education Program will provide students with the knowledge to become safe drivers on America’s roadways. Topics in this course include legal obligations and responsibility, rules of the road and traffic procedures, safe driving strategies and practices, and the physical and mental factors affecting the driver’s capability (including alcohol and other drugs).
